Bognor House Day Nursery

Our day at Bognor House Day Nursery

A daily routine gives children a sense of security. This is why we ensure each day is properly structured while leaving enough time for spontaneous activities.

Our routine is flexible adapted to children's needs and the weather, using these times as a guide.

We have an earlier start of 8am but our core day starts at 8.30am, this is not a rigid start time but helps getting in the routine of school life further down the line.

Our morning session (8.30-12) and our afternoon session (1-4.30) are very similar, this is to offer children that attend each session the same opportunities, or children who are with us all day have the opportunity to join in with somethig they may not of felt like in the morning.

We have a range of freeflow activities and also an adult led activity each session. This can also be outtings around the local comminity, shops and landmarks. We like visiting the beach, woods and pier. We will also get on the bus outside the nursery for a trip round the town.

Once a year we also get the bus to Noah's Arch.

Our lunch our is 12-1 daily, tea time is 5.30pm. Our core day finishes at 4.30pm and we also offer later finishes of 6pm Monday to Thursday, Fridays 5pm.

Bognor House Curriculum Pets

At Bognor House we follow the Government’s Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. We enhance this with our 7 Bognor House Pets.

Each pet has been chosen to represent an area of learning…

Dillon the Dog – CONNECTIONS –Building relationships with peers and adults. Teamwork and sharing skills. Feeling settled and ready in the nursery environment and understanding routines/rules.

Lizzie the Lizard – CULTURE – Understanding surroundings and that we are all different, with different beliefs and views. Tolerance. Learning about celebrations around the world. Respecting values and care in the community.

Percy the Parrot – COMMUNICATION – Using Makaton, Early Talkers, Poetry Basket and Helicopter Stories to build language and vocabulary. Each child to be listened to and opinions valued.

Bonnie the Bunny – CARE – Being comfortable with adults and peers. Receiving care and giving care to others. Learning about emotions and how to regulate them. General wellbeing.

Sid the Spider – CREATIVITY – Building confidence and allowing children to explore artistic solutions. Painting, yoga, dancing, music. Finding ways to doing things.

Cleo the Cat – CURIOSITY – Asking questions. Having a desire to learn and fostering a love for learning. Using senses to explore the world around us. Following own interests leading to a deeper inquiry and understanding.

Heidi the Hen – CRITICAL THINKING – Problem solving and thinking skills. Risky play. Working out the best way to do things. Using tools. Learning independence.

The children are encouraged to make friends with the pets and to eventually associate the pet with the area of learning.

Pictures of the pets are displayed around nursery; we link the pets to observations of the children and certificates are also awarded to the children for demonstrating understanding and “wow” moments associated with each pet.

We have found it is a fun way to encourage learning across the various areas of the curriculum.

Your child is our priority

Here at Bognor House, we have a good understanding of children's lives and their social contexts, basing our teaching around them. Supporting and encouraging personality development, autonomy and creativity are top priorities for us. Developing social interaction and understanding differences in others also plays an important role in our work. We also support you, the parent, in bringing up your child.

Our motto: working together, we make your child stronger!
